In what may be the most extreme environmental cleanup, twenty Nepali climbers are attempting to clear the slopes of Mount Everest of debris left by climbers. In the past, the garbage was buried by snow; however, rising temperatures are leading to increased snowmelt and trash exposure.

This Earth Day The New Yorker paid tribute to Rachel Carson's iconic Silent Spring. The magazine was the first to publish Silent Spring in June 1962. Carson's book is often credited with sparking widespread concern over pesticide use and pollution.
