1. Swedish start-up Minesto recently acquired the funding necessary to being developing a revolutionary underwater kite. The kite would capture energy from tidal currents, producing around 500 kilowatts.

2. California passed a law this week requiring energy plants to phase out cooling systems that use ocean water. Fish, fish eggs and marine mammals can get caught in the cooling system and injured or killed.
