November 27, 2009 - Women's Holiday Gift Guide

Green Guide Network was asked to develop a list of sustainable green gift ideas for the holiday season.  We didn't feel that just one list would fit everyones interests, budgets or needs so we developed 4 lists; a women's list, a men's list, children's list as well as a do-good charity list. Starting here with the women's list, we will continue to release all of the green holiday gift guides in the coming weeks. Our list includes holiday ideas that are interesting, practical and eco-friendly. Have a happy, safe and green holiday season!

1.     SIGG Wheels of Karma 20 oz, SIGG, $21.99
For more information click here.

One of my favorite holiday traditions is caroling. This 20 oz bottle is the perfect size for bringing hot chocolate along (and would also keep cold hands warm). For the rest of the year, it's great for everyday use.  SIGG bottles are made out of aluminum so they won't leak harsh chemicals and they're easy to wash.  Plus, don't worry if you lose the cap or want a carabineer for you bottle - extra accessories are also available online. $21.99 from SIGG, mysigg.com

2.     Three Lavish Layers of Lip Balm, Rosebud Perfume Co, $16.00

For more information click here.

Give a gift that will keep lips soft and protected through a chilly winter.  Rosebud Perfume Co's three best-selling salves in strawberry, rosebud and minted rose scents come in a pretty vintage tin. Rest easy knowing these lightly scented balms contain no parabens, sulfates, GMOS or other harmful toxins and are not tested on animals. $16 from Sephora, www.sephora.com

3.     Borges Cordones, TOMS Shoes,  $79.00
For more information click here.

Make a green statement with these silver shoes! These sleek, comfortable sneakers will certainly add a little sparkle to any holiday wardrobe.   Like all TOMS shoes, they have a durable rubber outside and plenty of arch and heel support.  And, like all TOMS shoes, TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need whenever a pair is purchased. $70 from TOMS Shoes, www.tomsshoes.com

4.     Tote Bag, Chic Earth on Etsy, $15.00

For more information click here.

I love reusable bags but hate the hideous kind my grocery store carries. These adorable reusable bags are proof that you don't have to settle for a reusable bag with a giant sports team logo bought from your local grocery store. Shop in style with these whimsical bags, which come in a variety of chic patterns with natural and floral themes. Lined with organic cotton canvas, these bags will brighten any trip to the store. For an additional $8, you can add a magnetic closure or pockets, turning this tote into a perfect everyday bag. $15.00 from ChicEarth, www.esty.com/shop/ChicEarth

5.     Jasmine Woven Earrings from Uncommon Goods, $80.00

For more information click here.

These delicate earrings, inspired by tapestry hanging in artist Maja Rose's apartment, combine a detailed silver jasmine bough with bright splashes of color from interwoven organic cotton thread. $80 from Uncommon Goods, www.uncommongoods.com

6.     Bamboo iPhone Case, Incase, $34.95

For more information click here.

Save a clumsy friend from an iPhone funeral with this iPhone case. Made of 40% reclaimed materials, this bamboo slider case offers the same protection as Incase's original slider case with less impact. Offered in natural colors, these lightly textured cases are lightweight and won't impede access to the phone. Fits the iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G. $34.95 from Incase, goincase.com

7.     Tarte Cheek Stain, Tarte, $30

For more information click here.

Achieve a "just in from the cold" glow all the time with Tarte's cheek stain. Dab on to cheeks to get a natural flush while moisturizing ingredients soften skin. I like "Blissful", a warm pink for everyday use or "Tipsy" for a shimmery party look. Contains no harmful chemicals. $30 from Tarte, www.sephora.com

8.     Recycled Pages Journal, $8, etsy.com

For more information click here.

This journal, made of recycled paper, is a great place to write holiday memories. Unlike most recycled paper notebooks, this notebook contains pages that have not gone through any sort of processing - each page is from an unwanted book. Don't worry, there is still plenty of blank space for writing and doodling.  $8 from Laura Prentice Wennstrom, www.etsy.com/shop/lauraprentice

9.     Babycakes: The Cookbook, $12.96, Amazon

For more information click here.

One of the best holiday traditions is baking - the scent of gingerbread cookies or magic bars is always a reminder of the holidays. But, if you are a vegan or if you have a gluten-allergy, the holidays can be wrought with tempting items that you can't eat. This cookbook from Babycakes Bakery in New York City contains delicious of the best gluten-free, vegan recipes that everyone can enjoy. $12.96 from Babycakes NYC, www.amazon.com

10.     Apple Containers, $9.95

For more information click here.

Made of 100% plastic, these darling apple containers are perfect for toting holiday cookies to friends' houses. Or, use them as a jewelry bowl on your dresser. When you buy one set, thebreastcancersite.com will fund 1% of a mammogram - eco-friendly and cancer fighting! $9.95 from thebreastcancersite.com
