October 3, 2011 - Treasure Island Music Festival 2011

Dig live music? How about idyllic islands? Live your life as green as possible? Look no further than the (kinda) little festival on the bay.

Set on a history-laden island by the same name, the Treasure Island Music Festival is an annual 2-day music festival that takes place in the San Francisco Bay. Much like our National parks, pristine beaches, and historic monuments – the location of this festival reminds all those in attendance of the importance of minimizing our carbon footprint.

Over the past four years, the organizers, Noise Pop Industries and Another Planet Entertainment have successfully diverted 3/4 of the festival waste to recycling and composting. This years festival is to be held October 15 & 16, for details check out the website: http://www.treasureislandfestival.com/

Some of the bands for this year include Empire of the Sun, Death Cab for Cutie, Cut Copy, Chromeo, Warpaint, YACHT, and Aloe Blaac to name just a small segment of the crews coming to the island.
On the green side of things, here are just some of the Greening Initiatives for Treasure Island 2011:

REDUCING EMISSIONS
Biodiesel generators - Fueled with B20, a mix of 20% biodiesel, 80% diesel, which reduces emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition will be providing complimentary Valet Bike Parking service at Lot A of AT&T Park. Think of it like a coat check for bikes-you don't need to worry about the safety of your bike while you are out enjoying the music, just park your bike at Lot A, ride a zero-emission bus to the island, and then turn in your claim check when you get back to Lot A. Special thanks to the SFBC for offering this free, unique, and convenient service!

REDUCING WASTE
The Refillable Water Program greatly reduces plastic bottle consumption. The festival will offer two different refillable spring water options - you can purchase a TIMF branded stainless steel water bottle at the water station or merchandise tent and receive free refills of spring water all weekend, or bring your own water bottle from home and purchase refills for $1.

Clean Vibes, an organization dedicated to diverting as much of the festival's waste from the landfill as possible, will stage reclamation stations with clearly marked compost, recycling and trash bins throughout the event site and festival volunteers will guide audience members on which kinds of trash belong in which bins.

All printed materials are on recycled paper.

Recycled napkins, paper towels, and toilet paper throughout the site

Compostable plastic cups, plates and utensils available at all concessions

Tickets are inexpensive for the value and adventure you'll have (when's the last time you're been to a festival on an island?). Plus, whether you're into the green side of things (we're talking recycling and composting here) or if you go just to listen to the epic sounds eminating from the Bay - you're guaranteed to have an amazing time. Just get there, trust us.
